Greg “Captain” Holbus serves as the film’s writer, producer, and director. After retiring his law practice in 2017, he sold his home, gave away most of his possessions, and took to living on the road for several months. During his journey, he befriended several hitchhikers, and found them to be among the friendliest, kindest, and most thoughtful people he’d met. But he also witnessed how they were mistreated by ordinary people and law enforcement, Greg vowed to use his persuasive writing skills to advocate for their rights and dignities. “Socks” was the eventual result of that effort.
In addition to owning and managing law practices for eleven years, Greg also served as president of the Machickanee Player, a community theatre in Oconto from 2022-2024, while also serving as writer and director for an original adaptation of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein”. During his tenure at the theatre, (1) overall ticket sales from show to show increased by almost 350%, (2) average fill per performance increased from less than 40% of capacity to 75% of capacity, while simultaneously expanding seating capacity by 37.5%, (3) and the theatre’s geographic footprint grew, with ticket purchases originating from 17 zip codes at the start to 51 zip codes by the end. All of these accomplishments were made in spite of having no prior theatre management experience, the overall declining popularity of live theatre as a form of entertainment, the immediate aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the theatre being situated in a small and conservative town.
In addition to his production experience with “Frankenstein”, Greg also worked as a haunt actor and set builder for Terror on the Fox from 2015-2016, and since then has worked as a freelance haunt craftsman and performance artist.

Leather Tramp Productions, LLC was organized in the State of Wisconsin on 14 May 2024. The primary purpose of this company is to develop, produce, market, and distribute the film, “Socks”.
Fun Fact: “Leather Tramp” is a slang term for nomads who travel primarily by foot, where leather alludes to the thick hide that develops on the soles of their feet. In comparison, a “Rubber Tramp” refers to a nomad who travels primarily by motor vehicle, where rubber alludes to the tires.
